It’s true that many of us have our faces stuck to whatever to device we tweet with… but many of us also split that time with our faces stuck in a book. And, with that said, can amass stacks of great reads that need a new home. Join @anniepants and @pocketofroofies for a paperback swap!

And for those of you with those new fangled electronic readers, you are more than welcome to swap too (though I really don’t know how that’s done).

There is no limit to what you can bring or what you can take, we just ask that you play nice and try to be fair. Any unclaimed books at the end of the day will be donated to the library.

We are meeting at Mad Myrna’s for the Friday night Diva Show that starts at 9:00 p.m. So come and get your gay on, get your groove on or hell just come by have a drink and say hello!

Hey gang, @Valette and myself were discussing and we decided it’s due time we get together for a photo walkabout downtown!

I just went back to look and see when our last Alaska Tweets photo tweetup took place, and surprisingly that answer is never!

So why don’t you join us in being a part of Alaska Tweets history!

Whether you have a point and click, a mid sized, a big daddy camera or no camera at all! You are invited to join us Friday July, 23 at the @KaladiBrothers downtown at 6:00 p.m. We’ll likely hang around until 6:30 for those who can’t make it on the hour.

From there we will meander around Downtown Anchorage taking photos of people and places and things. You are welcome to stay as long or as little as you would like.

I will put up a poll as the date approaches to see who we should expect. Hope to see you there!

Hey kids! It’s @jmproffitt here, back from the dead — I mean the lower 48 — for a visit to the Last Frontier. And I couldn’t visit without instigating at least one Tweetup! So here’s the deal:

The peak of the Alaskan summer arrives this weekend, as we clock 19 hours and 22 minutes of daylight in Anchorage. But before we start shaving solar minutes off the clock, let’s celebrate the Arctic sun with an old-school all-hands-on-deck Tweetup!

Stop by anytime between 3:00 and 7:00pm at the Snow Goose downtown. If the weather is good, we’ll be out back on the deck, soaking in the open air. If it’s not so good, find us inside enjoying a cold beer and some hot halibut and chips.

And please: join us whether you’re an old tweeter or you’re just finding your new Twitter voice. Indeed, the last time we gathered up at the Snow Goose, we met several new friends.

A Polite Tea Party, or, I Believe in Civility and Manners

You are cordially invited to a Real Polite Tea Party / Tweetup

To take place on Sunday, May the second, from two o’clock to five o’clock in the afternoon

Gather at Bella Boutique on Spenard Road (with overflow if necessary in Sugarspoon Alaska next door)

Dress code: fancy summer tea party (inasmuch as it pleases you). Dresses, hats, summer suits, your finest shoes, pinkies up.

No cost is involved, but this event is BYOT: Bring Your Own Teacup. And bring some pocket change for a small charitable donation to a politically neutral charity doing good (and sustainable) work in the developing world, where our tea comes from. Also consider a small purchase from our kind host, Bella Boutique.

This event is a friendly gathering open to people of all political beliefs, provided they agree to be supremely polite and civil to one another and enjoy the company of peers all afternoon. Talking politics or religion at a party is of course extremely rude, and you know your grandmother would not tolerate it; therefore it will be frowned upon.

This gathering is dedicated to the proposition that manners matter, and that with them people of widely varying political beliefs can be civil to one another, enjoy each other’s company, and coexist within a democratic nation despite their differences. It is also dedicated to the wearing of pretty dresses and dessert.

Tea Party members, Republicans, Moderates, Democrats, Communists, and Anarchists are all invited to come politely celebrate the privilege of being free to hold our own beliefs and uphold our duty to coexist without violence or hatred. Coexistence is of course made easier with the aid of truffles, finger sandwiches, a short moratorium on talking politics at a party, and tea.

Please RSVP via Facebook or the @AlaskaTweets website. This is open to the public, and if lots and lots show up, we will overflow happily and peaceably into Sugarspoon next door.

This event is informally put together/inspired by some folks in the Anchorage Twitter community, though it’s open to the public. See @alaskatweets for more details.

(If you’re out of the Anchorage area, consider holding a Polite Tea Party of your own! Sometimes the ultimate political protest is apolitical. Nobody ever changed anyone else’s mind about an issue with picket signs and slurs, only with civil discourse. And more than I believe in any other political idea, I believe in civil discourse. And I believe that right now it’s endangered.)

We do need some volunteer assistance in Anchorage to make this party happen. Please comment if you’re able to assist with any of the following things. Break out the china and silver you’ve been dying to use:

* A few compact folding chairs and wooden TV trays
* Linens and cutlery (no paper or plastic would be lovely if possible)
* Teapots and tea, and hot pots or small electric burners to heat water
* Home-baked tea party goodies: scones, finger sandwiches, truffles, cookies
* Tea fixings: sugar cubes, sweeteners, cream, and containers for tea service
* Setup/cleanup help
* Collecting charity donations & ensuring the donation is made

This is what Jamie had to say about Allie:

She’ll be 14 next month. I’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old — my first baby. She has lymphoma (lymph node cancer) now. She’s on steroids and may be around for a few more days or weeks. She’s a tough pit bull, but cancer is evil.

I have met Allie, she is as sweet as they come. Please bring yourself, dogs and cameras.

We will be meeting on Sunday 3/21 at 2:00 p.m. at Klutina Dog Park.

Please join my daughter (Lily) and I at Century Theaters on Thursday night (March11) at 7:00 p.m. for a trip down the rabbit hole!

I have loved Tim Burton since the beginning and I know a lot of you are fans as well. Alice in Wonderland has been a favorite since I was a little girl and I can’t wait to see what Tim (yes, we’re on a first name basis) has masterminded for this flick.

If you have never been to a 3-D movie, be prepared to be astounded (as well as pay a lot, WORTH IT!) because as I sat watching Coraline in 3-D, I felt like my grandparents probably felt the first time the saw a T.V. It was the magic.

Please note that you will NEED TO Fandango tickets or purchase them at Century in advance since it seems to be such popular movie (AND IN 3-D! ZOMG!).

Meet in the lobby at 6:00 so we have time to say our hello’s and get treats/seats.

Please remember this is a kid friendly event, but Tim tends to be on the dark side of productions, so if your little one scares easily it may be best to leave them at home.

Boxing Day Sledding Tweetup

It’s a proven fact that sledding is good for one’s health. It provides ample opportunity to fill one’s lungs with fresh and crisp air and one’s blood with quick jolts of adrenaline. It is also known as the best way to get over all of the extra calories that come with the holidays. This Boxing Day, let’s sled down Powerline Pass and Gasline Pass.

Location

We will meet at the end of Sultana Drive, marked on the map as a P, at 12:00pm on December 26. By 12:15 we will cram as many people and sleds into as few 4×4 or AWD vehicles as possible and drive to the Glen Alps Parking Lot at the base of Flattop. After a short walk we will be ready for a great 2-mile sledding extravaganza!

What to Bring

Warm clothes
Snow gear: pants, boots, gloves, scarf, hat
A sled or two, something fast and fun
Thermos of hot cocoa for the bottom of the hill
This is a family-friendly tweetup, so bring as many friends and family as you can

Caveats

If the weather turns terrible the sledding tweetup will be canceled; a determination on the weather will be made closer to Boxing Day. We will also need a number of 4×4 or AWD vehicles capable of making the drive up to the Glen Alps parking lot and drivers willing to shuttle others.

The holidays are upon us. For weeks we have been shopping, making plans with loved ones, decorating our homes, and baking. While we have been frosting cookies and sending off cards, wrapping packages and singing carols, many of us have forgotten to reflect upon the most important activities of this sacred season.

Join fellow Alaska Tweets folk this First Friday at local radio station @KNBA — a public radio and “AAA” music station famous for eclectic live-hosted music shows plus local news and public affairs.

Our hosts: Journalist and producer Jennifer Canfield (@jennywalks) and Loren Dixon, KNBA’s Director of Programming and Operations. And they’ve got some great plans. Here’s what’s included in KNBA’s first Tweetup:

A brief, personalized tour of KNBA’s studios, brand new just 2 years ago
A chance to record a “sweeper” in your voice that the station can use on-air (and you’ll learn just what a sweeper is)
An opportunity to browse through some 300 CDs — and take home any you might like
Hang-out time with new and old Twitter friends
Refreshments (of course!)
Kids are welcome
Doors open by 6:30, tour at 7:00, hang out until 8:00-ish
