A Tweetup to create more Tweetups

It’s time for another Tweetup! But before you check your calendar and make plans, read on…

Recently @MKinMotion suggested maybe we Alaska Twitter folk should have a Tweetup focused on wine and wine tasting. He also suggested maybe he’d put it together. Sounded good to me. Nothing is set yet, but that may be coming.

Anyway, we got to talking and figured maybe we should get together to talk about what kinds of Tweetups we might like to organize. The events could be setup either separately or together. So that’s what we’re going to do — get together and chat.

If you’d like to talk about setting up a Tweetup in the weeks or months to come, join us!

This Friday, March 13@MKinMotion and @jmproffitt are getting together at Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge (map) at 7:00 p.m. It’s a casual and social thing, so everyone is invited, but we do plan to talk about future Tweetups, how to pull them together and so on.

POSSIBLE TWEETUP THEMES (via @MKinMotion):

Wine Tasting
A venue where wine can be tasted and purchased with a good sommelier who can make it entertaining and informative. Probably better for the Alaska summer.

What are you doing?
In the spirit of the orginal Twitter question, discussions surrounding work projects, moonlighting gigs, etc. I thought the brief introductions at the first Tweetup were great.

Creativity/Talent Showcase
People sign up for blocks of time to share something creative or a talent with the group. I went to something like this billed as a “Creativity Salon” and you can imagine the images I had prior to going. I was blown away by poetry, storytelling, photo slide show, music, dramatic monologue, dance, and most importantly how inspired everyone in attendance was. I think having a headliner to open and close the event like a Marian Call or a local band is a good way to break the ice and ensure cat poems don’t dominate the evening.

Photowalk Anchorage
There are plenty of brilliant photographers in the AKTweeps group, and many many more that like photography but don’t have the talent or equipment. Get everyone together to do a walk downtown or something like the Coastal Trail, Campbell Airstrip, etc. where pros and amatuers can walk and talk about what and how to shoot using any camera. See ThomasHawk.com if you’re unfamiliar with the concept.

What other Tweetups might be organized in Anchorage or beyond? Got suggestions? Want to volunteer to create a Tweetup? Join us to talk it over…

Unfortunately, that’s Ladies Costco Bottle of Wine Night, so I won’t be able to make it (too bad, too, because I loves me some chocolate…). But I’d be interested in helping organize future Tweetups, so please keep me in the loop.

Wish we could be there! I always love an excuse to go to the chocolate lounge ;)

@SlightlySt00pid and I will be in Phoenix though. Can’t wit to hear what comes of the meeting though!

John, I would come Fri nite but need to travel to san diego to help my sweet mom move out of her house. She sold it after 45 years. So I fly all night thursday and spend until Monday night helping her donate books to the library, take old furniture to the salvation army. So I cannot come to that Fri nite choc lounge event. (I’ve been there and I loved the chili/hotchocoloate. Probably not the right name, but that’s what it is.) ANYWAY, I was wondering about a Tweet Up about community news coverage. What if we wanted to launch a core of Anchorage neighborhood blogs on Blogger, and we started it through a Tweet Up session. Find interested parties wiling to write about the doings and concerns in their neighborhoods? I know this isn’t as cool as win-tasting, but then again, nothing says we can do it in a venue with wine…
Let me know if you think this has merit.

Interesting idea, Kathleen. Mt. View already has a head start on the rest of the neighborhoods – http://mtviewforum.wordpress.com/. The posting is infrequent but very high quality. I’m sure there are others I don’t know about. I haven’t been able to locate one for my neighborhood yet.

I got a question asking whether the mini-Tweetup was still on. YES, as far as I’m concerned. Let’s do it!

  6. @4ann2c says:

*snaps fingers* I’m out of town until the 23rd (happy birthday to me) but I will help in any area you find you need me. I’m all in….just not all in town.

We’d be willing to rock the joint if you have somewhere we can plug in and be reasonably loud. :)
