Paperback Swap-Up

It’s true that many of us have our faces stuck to whatever to device we tweet with… but many of us also split that time with our faces stuck in a book. And, with that said, can amass stacks of great reads that need a new home. Join @anniepants and @pocketofroofies for a paperback swap!

Paperbacks? Yes.
Hardcovers? Yes.

And for those of you with those new fangled electronic readers, you are more than welcome to swap too (though I really don’t know how that’s done).

The Plan

  • Kaladi Brothers downtown (621 W 6th Ave) in the Community Room (off the end of the bar)
  • Sunday, August 29, 2:00 pm
  • Bring your gently loved books to swap

Deposit your books on a central table and we will very orderly and without too much yelling (they would kick us out) rifle through and grab what we would like to read. Easy peasy. There is no limit to what you can bring or what you can take, we just ask that you play nice and try to be fair. Any unclaimed books at the end of the day will be donated to the library.

Unearth your randy romances, your sassy sci-fi, and your funky fiction. We want it. All of it. See you there.

Drew Perez (@awpz) is coming for a visit this weekend all the way from our lovely State capital of Juneau just to meet us Tweeps!

We are meeting at Mad Myrna’s for the Friday night Diva Show that starts at 9:00 p.m. So come and get your gay on, get your groove on or hell just come by have a drink and say hello!

We will be there long after the Diva show I am sure, so if you want to come after the show, feel free!

Hope to see you there!

Everyone is invited, let’s make this one big tweet-up!

Puppy People Tweetup

Attention all puppy people. It’s time to put on your walking shoes and round up your dogs for a long overdue puppeh tweetup.

@rachelinak's Hoff 4

Please join @Valette, @kpearso3 and others for a tweetup next Sunday, August 8. Meet at University Lake dog park at 2:00 pm for a romp around the trail, good conversation, picture taking opportunities, and a dog gone good time. Humans and dogs of all ages and sizes are welcome.

Don’t have a dog? @kpearso3 has three, so feel free to borrow one of hers, or just join us for some fresh air and good company.

Drop @kpearso3 or @Valette a tweet so they know about how many to expect. Hope to see you there!

Thanks to all who came out for the Downtown Walkabout Friday night! It was fun walking around taking photos with new and well-established friends. We had to cut it short because of the rain, but moved the party to McGuinley’s pub where conversation kept drifting back to juggalos and the shakeweight.

As a reminder, please post your shots in the Alaska Tweets Flickr group.

Though you didn’t realize it, it’s almost time for…

Cook & Juback’s Epic #NoPants Bacchanalia & Birthday Party Featuring Marian Call!

SAVE THE DATE — add it to your iPhone, desk calendar, stick a note to your fridge, just remember the date!

  • Friday, Aug 6, 2010
  • 6:30pm – 8:30pm
  • At a Residence — Will Email Address Closer to Aug 6
  • Hosted by @akcook and @juback

#NoPants doesn’t mean what you think it does – it means anything from togas to furries which, incidentally, means #NoPants! ;) But really, anything is cool with us… have fun with it!

Alaskan singer-songwriter and Twitter favorite Marian Call is performing and the cover is a suggested $5 donation to her. This is not required but it is definitely appreciated, as we can’t afford to hire her stunning talent on our own.

BBQ to start around 7:00 p.m., concert starting at 8:00 p.m. sharp, after-party to follow!

Drinks/Food are still being planned so any input is appreciated.

Please bring:

  • A chair/blanket (something to keep your ass dry and off the ground)
  • Snacks (use the comments section on Facebook to share ideas)
  • August-appropriate clothing
  • $5 suggested cover (if you attend the concert)
  • Your drink of choice

Sign up for this very special event via Facebook here.

Hey gang, @Valette and myself were discussing and we decided it’s due time we get together for a photo walkabout downtown!

I just went back to look and see when our last Alaska Tweets photo tweetup took place, and surprisingly that answer is never!

So why don’t you join us in being a part of Alaska Tweets history!

Whether you have a point and click, a mid sized, a big daddy camera or no camera at all! You are invited to join us Friday July, 23 at the @KaladiBrothers downtown at 6:00 p.m. We’ll likely hang around until 6:30 for those who can’t make it on the hour.

From there we will meander around Downtown Anchorage taking photos of people and places and things. You are welcome to stay as long or as little as you would like.

I will put up a poll as the date approaches to see who we should expect. Hope to see you there!

Thanks to @ak_hepcat and @FX_DaleTran for calling together the latest tweetup (and @AgentIceCream for promoting). The hot wings at Wings-n-Things were indeed hot. But the company was cool:

Thanks to everyone that came out, and we’ll see you next time. Right?

It’s a Nukeup!

Who started it? Was it @ak_hepcat? Could it have been @kaizan? Maybe it was @907natalie? Or maybe it was another Alaska tweeter who shall reveal him/her  -self on Friday. Don’t miss it!

Kinda of a rainy, cold day in Anchorage, but the Snow Goose offered a warm Solstice for the following Anchorage tweeps (and please comment if we missed anyone):

Not a bad gathering for a day of crazy parking downtown and a million other events commemorating the Solstice. Thanks to everyone for coming out in the rain and traffic!

Don’t forget this weekend’s Solstice Tweetup in Anchorage! It’s a casual come-as-you-are-when-you-can event open to new friends, old friends and the curious. Details:

Hey kids! It’s @jmproffitt here, back from the dead — I mean the lower 48 — for a visit to the Last Frontier. And I couldn’t visit without instigating at least one Tweetup! So here’s the deal:

The peak of the Alaskan summer arrives this weekend, as we clock 19 hours and 22 minutes of daylight in Anchorage. But before we start shaving solar minutes off the clock, let’s celebrate the Arctic sun with an old-school all-hands-on-deck Tweetup!

Stop by anytime between 3:00 and 7:00pm at the Snow Goose downtown. If the weather is good, we’ll be out back on the deck, soaking in the open air. If it’s not so good, find us inside enjoying a cold beer and some hot halibut and chips.

And please: join us whether you’re an old tweeter or you’re just finding your new Twitter voice. Indeed, the last time we gathered up at the Snow Goose, we met several new friends.

Please note whether you’re attending via twtvite (yes/maybe/no), and let everyone know about the event!

  • Bring your camera
  • Bring your Twitter-enabled cell phone
  • Bring your appetite
  • Bring your smile

Thanks to @AgentIceCream, @MKinMotion, @Valette, @Robotkarateman and @lindseydurrell for helping pick the day/time and thanks to @Mayor_of_Twtr for suggesting the place!

@mariancall‘s car is getting ready for a 50-state tour, and we’re sending it off right – with alcohol!

  • Bernie’s Bungalow Lounge
  • 626 D Street, Anchorage, AK 99501 [map]
  • Saturday, May 8
  • 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Stop by, have a drink, and say goodbye and good luck. A donation jar will be available to help Marian’s car offset the cost of gas, new fuzzy dice, and a new headgasket (ouch!).

If you’re unable to swing by, donations can also be made through @mariancall‘s tip jar, or through her lovely spring fundraiser.

For more information about the sendoff for @mariancall‘s car, send a message to @robotkarateman.
